Snow Day

In the middle of two gorgeous 60/70 degree weekends, the kids had a snow day on Wednesday when it snowed 5 inches overnight.  Kind of crazy!

It was a quick, thick, wet snow, and it melted even faster.  Everything looked so beautiful covered in snow first thing in the morning, but it dropped off the trees within a couple hours.

Mead and I managed to build a snow pyramid with our Sno-Cone buckets.  Until next time...

Indoor soccer

Mead started playing indoor soccer this month, and she's loving it!  Check out that tongue action while she's kicking the ball around :-)

Great Wolf Lodge

We took a family vacation to Great Wolf Lodge this week - the kids had been asking to go back since the last time we came, over two years ago.

We checked in early and hit the water slides right away!

Cole especially loved being in the water as much as possible.  Last time he was only 3 years old, and he wasn't quite so brave!

Of course everyone had to stand under the giant 1000 gallon bucket that dumps water out every few minutes.

And the kids enjoyed story time at the end of the day - complete with meeting characters from Wolf Lodge.

Cole didn't want to meet Violet the first night (too girly!) but he came back the next night to meet Brinley the Bear.  All in all, it was a nice few days away!

Real snowboarding

Shortly after I posted a couple of pictures of Cole using our sled as a snowboard on Facebook, someone from our church gave us a real snowboard for him to try out.  He immediately started practicing, though the snow was slim.

Clip in his snow boots, and off he goes!  First he tried the tiny hill at our house, then he was ready to try the bigger one at the church.

There he goes!  There was just enough snow on the ground for him to go downhill, but not too much for him to fly down really fast.  Perfect for his first attempt!

I'm already looking forward to our next snow day so he can give his new board another try!

Playing in the Snow

We got a few inches of snow last week, and Cole was delighted!  He loves playing in the snow, whether it's shoveling it from one place to another or sledding down the big hill at the church.

He's such a hard worker - he got out to help Daddy clear the sidewalks, and then he kept on shoveling the snow off our driveway where it had gotten piled up by the snow plow.

After that we took the sleds to the church, and he decided to try his hand at "snowboarding" by holding onto the handles on the sled.

He had such a good time and managed to stay on his feet the whole way down!

Birthday and Basketball

It snowed on Mead's actual birthday, so the kids got to stay home for an extra hour or so before going to school on a delay.  We started the day with our traditional cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

And then Mead got to open her gifts before school and play with them for a bit too!

On a completely different note, Laine started playing basketball this winter.  She's been enjoying the games, and her team won for the first time this weekend.  They're working hard and learning a lot!

And Laine is studying about ancient history in school, so they did a mock day of ancient Olympics in class this week.  Love the creativity in her learning!

Happy Birthday Mead!

Mead turned 7 this week, and we celebrated with a trip to the bowling alley with a couple friends from church.

The kids had a good time bowling - look at the intensity on Cole and Mead's faces!

After bowling we all came back to the house for lunch and cake.  It was a fun way to celebrate Mead's birthday!
